Herculaneum and Magatama

In the 1970s, Hubert Berke uses geometric forms to bring inspirations like the Pleiades and antique architecture to life. He perforates and cuts the paper before painting it, giving his artworks depth and a three dimensional appearance. This technique is partly also used in other landscape series as Holland and Syria, but it results in a whole series in and of itself of hole-pattern paintings.
